Art Love 03: Leah Fraser / Within You Without You

I adore the evocative works of Australian artist Leah Fraser, particularly her 2017 exhibition at Sydney's Arthouse Gallery, 'Within You Without You'.

Working on these paintings while pregnant, Fraser contemplated the irrevocable link between birth and death, and the transformations this life cycle enacted. "Birth and death are transformations of one kind - and I was transforming into this vessel for a new life, and eventually a mother."

Each piece in the show explored the connectedness of life and death, reincarnation & rebirth. After just giving birth to my first daughter, I can relate heavily to the emotions and reflective experience her paintings provide. Her intricate details are astounding, and transport me to another realm.

Thanks to Leah Fraser for the images.

1. Her beauty was visible still, 101 x 91cm
2. She could see it all like she'd been here before, 102 x 122cm
3. To the shadows softly go, 229 x 167cm
